Knowing Your Value in Times of Uncertainty

future of work motivation Jan 23, 2023

In times of uncertainty like the last two years and likely more excitement in years to come, what can you do to have that sense of deliberate calm and confidence?

Here are 3 things we learn in the Future Proof course that you might find useful.

1. Reflect and ground in your values.

What are the things that drive you? Some of my touchstones are catalyzing growth (myself and others), strengthening communities, storytelling and envisioning the future. I filter my decisions and priorities around these.

2. Invest in relationships.

Build support networks for various aspects of your life. Connect to family and friends. Pay attention to the close relationships in your life. We do this in part in our Future Proof course which is designed to be a community for people to catalyze their own growth and envision and test assumptions about their inspiring futures that matter.

3. Help others in need.

Focus outward. We feel good about ourselves when we feel like we matter. This doesn’t have to be capital “P” Purpose but it helps to focus outward.

Some ideas that you can start (and maybe even finish) in 10 seconds?

When you feel overwhelmed, text a friend to let them know you’re thinking of them.

Send a thank you note to someone who has been generous with you.

Reach out to a nonprofit to see if you can be of service to them.

When I am worried about getting on stage for a keynote, I play Guetta’s “This One’s For You” to remind me that it’s not about me, it's about the people I serve.

Watch this inspiring TEDx talk, Create Opportunity in an Uncertain World, by my friend Jennifer Fondrevay.

Above all, approach these with a spirit of lightheartedness and fun!
