How to build a personal brand the right way
The Personal Branding for Purpose course is a 3-module purely online course that walks you through my three best practices for uncovering the hidden stories of success that show, rather than tell, people your “why”.
These success stories can be applied to situations including job interviews, informal networking, in new leadership positions and with your existing team and peers.
“What do you do?”
I dreaded the question after I left my role as a regional director at a globally renowned media company.
Instead of having a confident answer, my usual calm poise left me and a fumbled response like, “Hmmm, well, um...some investing and I, um, sit on a startup board” left people confused and underwhelmed by what I was doing.
I heard that question from fellow board members. I heard it at conferences I attended to get up to speed on future technologies. I heard it at networking events. Even when my husband asked me what I was doing it was hard to articulate it with confidence!
I thought I was above such vanity...and such insecurity.
But that “wow!” - the response you get when you say you work for Goldman Sachs, Nike or Financial Times - can be a pretty hard thing to give up.
Even though I was thrilled with this new portfolio of activities and reinventing myself, I struggled to articulate it with confidence and sense of purpose.
Everyone from the MBAs I teach to the senior executives I work with describe that same pain. The tightness in the chest, the awkward chuckle and embarrassed mumbling when someone asks, “what do you do?”
When I ask them about their own elevator pitch, they feel like they have nothing to say, or say well, about what they do. Even if what they do is exactly what they have dreamed of!
Whether you are a leader with a new job or new team, doing multiple projects and struggling to wrap it in a nice sound byte, reinventing your career, or even taking a pivot to prioritize your art or wellbeing, you can do this!
You can have a clear, confident elevator pitch about who you are, what you do and what you stand for!
We developed this short course to give you the building blocks you need now and into the future.
- pay someone gobs of money to redo your resume only to find that the simple format you had was better and more authentic.
- hire social media experts and copywriters to craft content across multiple channels (I did that...it was like setting my money on fire in a trash can!)
- spend thousands of dollars for consultants to redo your LinkedIn profile that looks like everyone else's
- hire an expensive, high profile personal branding coach, spend months honing your brand, without a clear plan on what to do with it
I've tried all of these in the past. You can't outsource your personal brand any more than your purpose.
Can I tell you something?
It is such a relief to have a buttoned up elevator pitch that really reflects my values.
It gives me the confidence to talk about work I love.
I have google doc at the ready with all of the stories I need to describe my expertise regardless of whether I’m pitching the London Stock Exchange or asked to present inspiring stories to a group of young entrepreneurs.
It saves me time responding to people who want to work with me. It even saves me time by helping to filter out projects I don’t want to work on because they don’t align with my values.
Based on my personal brand, I have queries on a regular basis from my 10,000+ LinkedIn followers booking me for highly paid speaking, consulting, coaching or interviews.
What can this course do for you?
My clients are known and recognized for their expertise beyond the last job they did. They have launched podcasts, books and gotten plumb roles on boards. They have done these things in a way that is uniquely and truly represents who they are and what they want to contribute to the world. And that horrible, deflated feeling of not being able to say what you do with confidence is gone!
Clarify your message
Great storytelling is about taking a piece of the human condition (birth, growth, emotionality, aspiration, conflict) and conveying it in a unique situation.
Express your values
Your values are those things or conditions that are important to you. They represent the things you want to do in your life and work to make a difference. The clearer you are about your values, the easier it is to put them into practice. Values provide the framework for decision-making.
Be your best self
Living your life in the best way possible is a win-win. Being here just for yourself is unfulfilling. It’s how we all pull together that makes the world a better place.
Leave a great impression
It takes just a quick glance, maybe three seconds, for someone to evaluate you when you meet for the first time. In this short time, the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your demeanor, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed.
This product is designed for you to be in the driver’s seat. It gives you the structure and practices to tell the right story about your fabulous self.

People ask me all the time what is needed to be a great speaker, to master social media, to build a platform. This checklist answers all of those questions!
Ultimate LinkedIn Cheat Sheet
LinkedIn is the professional social media window to your value. I’ve done hugely popular presentations for The Financial Times on how senior executives can transform their personal brands via their LinkedIn profile. But specially for you I’ve asked my friend, Eric Simm, a banker who has built over 2 million LinkedIn followers, to showcase his top tips.
This will help you transform your LinkedIn profile to uniquely stand out.
If you were to hire someone just to look at your LinkedIn profile it would cost you $1,000. Private coaches cost even more. But some investment is worth it.
What would it be worth to you if you could have the tools to tell compelling, unique stories about your value for the rest of your career?
What would it be worth to you knowing that the 99% of recruiters viewing your digital footprint to make hiring decisions had a real window into your incredible value?
Because it’s new, we’re going to let you do this for $99 USD with full refund.

“This is a great start of a life-long journey of self-reflection and self-actualization.”
“From the Elevator Pitch section something that really stuck to my mind was how easy you framed how important it is... "help the people who want to help you", make it easy for them to introduce you.”
“I really liked the fact that we ended up with concrete tasks to do. I believe the Elevator Pitch, the Career Diary and the Life Map add a lot of value. Specifically the Career Diary I wish I had known before in order to keep more information regarding my different activities.”
